Searching for answers within data
From consultations to cutting-edge software, the Institute of Informatics (I2) offers an array of data-mining technologies. We provide these services and tools to faculty, researchers, students and professionals so that together we can answer some of the biggest questions in the healthcare and life sciences fields. I2 services are also available to for-profit organizations on a charge-back basis.
Informatics Core Services
REDCap is a free, secure, web-based application that provides clinical study data capture and modeling. It is a self-service tool available for surveys as well as data acquisition, capture, and management. The survey tool allows for various survey scenarios, including conditional logic, data uploads, and advanced formatting.
Data Brokerage Services
I2’s data broker team collaborates with BJC Healthcare’s Center for Clinical Excellence to provide data brokerage services to BJC, WUSM, and external agencies. The data broker team offers secondary data use and enrichment services that are focused on the extraction of data from electronic health records.
Research Data Core Services
The Research Data Core is a comprehensive data warehouse designed to meet the clinical and translational research needs of WUSM and BJC researchers. The warehouse contains data from the electronic health record and other sources, and provides access to data for clinical and translational research as well as technical and computational support for researchers.
I2B2 is a comprehensive software and methodological framework that enables clinical researchers to accelerate the translation of genomic and “traditional” clinical findings into novel diagnostics, prognostics, and therapeutics. It provides a collaborative organizational and software infrastructure to allow basic researchers to leverage insights arising from clinical studies.
SHRINE (Shared Health Research Information Network) is a system for enabling clinical researchers to solve the problem of identifying sufficient numbers of patients to include in their studies by querying across distributed hospital electronic medical record systems.
I2 hosts the ICTS Service Tracker tool to facilitate recording of core services provided to Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) members. The tracker is also used to increase accuracy of and standardize data collection across 15 different key programs and services of the ICTS.
